Summary: Set in Southern Rhodesia under white rule. Dick Turner is an unsuccessful white farmer and his wife, Mary, a town woman who hates the bush. Trapped by poverty, lonely and frightened, Mary turns to Moses, the black cook, for kindness and understanding.
